Pretoria – A 54-year-old Pretoria gardener has been denied bail after he allegedly raped his employer’s Dachshund bitch and then jumped over a wall and ran away.

A prosecutor told a Pretoria court that should the man be given bail, it was possible that he would once again have contact with the dog with which he had had “sexual intercourse”.

This was one of the reasons why prosecutor Lucas Moseki opposed bail for the man – and the application was subsequently turned down.

The gardener, who is accused of bestiality, cannot be identified before he has pleaded, as the charge relates to a sexual offence.

Suspicious

Investigating officer Constable Nomsa Masilela testified that the accused had worked at a house in Lyttelton Manor, Centurion, on November 7 2011.

The domestic worker saw how the gardener picked up the employer’s 7-year-old Dachshund bitch and stroked the dog.

“He walked to the Wendy house with the dog in his arms. The domestic thought he was going to wash the dog,” said Masilela.

But when the man started looking around and walked behind the Wendy house, the domestic worker became suspicious.

“She called her employer. They found the man holding the dog’s back leg and ‘raping’ it,” said Masilela.

The dog’s owner shouted at the gardener, who then dropped the dog and jumped over the wall.

But the dog owner chased after him, caught him and managed to stop a passing police vehicle as well.

The accused claimed at his bail hearing that he knew nothing of the incident.

According to him, his employer and the domestic worker were drunk.

This little Maltese boy was rescued from being mauled to death by a Boerboel – his sister unfortunately was not so lucky.  He is smart, sits and gives paw on command, well socialized, travels well, if fully housetrained and just a lovely, affectionate all round perfect pet who is eager to please.  Taken to Kempton Park SPCA – he is in need of a home ASAP – as kennels are over their capacity already so unlimited kennel time is not an option.  Adoption fee includes vacs and sterilization – and strict homechecks will apply.

Age = not sure

Personality = Lazy and calm.  Doesn’t seem to have a problem with other dogs or cats. Loves to lay on the couch.

Health problems = seems to have a problem with her eyes (which should be easily treated – most bassets often have eye and ear infections)  and she seems to have a club foot (which obviously doesn’t worry her since she can still get around perfectly fine)

Things you need to know about Bassets – They are Large breed dogs even though they are medium size, their bones are very heavy and should weigh in at about 23-25kgs.  They are prone to ear and eye infections (a wipe of each every day or every alternate day will help.  You can get ointment from your vet which is not very expensive and can apply the drops to both ears and eyes when needed for infections).  They are not always lazy dogs and can be quite boisterous and playful (don’t be fooled by the droopy eyes and ears).  Although they are very stubborn dogs, you can train them and teach them a routine.  Just like Daxies, they are very long and can have spinal issues if you do not watch their weight.  Their sense of smell is excellent (hunting dogs) and you need to ensure that your home is fully secured.  If there is an opportunity, they will leave your home and will not come back as they will be too enticed to follow whatever scents they have picked up.  I don’t see this as a negative, because surely you want to keep your animals off the streets anyway?  Also, you can have so much fun with them at home if you hide treats and then watch them “hunt” it down.  Bassets are very loving and affectionate dogs, they are the perfect family dog.

This beautiful boy was rescued from the township suffering from malnutrition and biliary.  He is making a full recovery – and eating us out of house and home!!

We have named him Hunter and he is mostly Ridgeback and a BIG boy!!  He has a sweet and loving nature – LOVES people!!   So he hangs out with Saskia and I all day in the clinic!!  He is about 5 years old, but still young at heart!!  He gets along with other dogs – loves the ladies – as he has not been well enough for us to sterilise him!!  We will definitely sterilise him before he goes to his new home.

Miles is a medium-sized, 7 year old, tan/chestnut sable Wire-Haired crossbreed. He was rescued by CLAW from a life of severe neglect in a township;   he had been tied up since a puppy and, as he grew, the chain became embedded in his neck!   Miles has since fully recovered and is a gentle-natured, easy-going and happy-go-lucky chap, who has an infectious, sunny disposition. He endears himself to all he meets and is a delightful blend of playful spirit and calm soul mate. This mellow and undemanding lad gets on well with other canines and people and deserves to be adopted by a loving, caring family.

ROSY and her 7 pups urgently need help.  They were removed from Louwville aka HORRORVILLE and who are now at a very basic enclosure/kennels on the West Coast.   You may now wonder why we have animals at this very basic setup but we only use this facility when we have NO other alternative which we did not have with Rosy and her pups as we could not leave them a day longer in the hell hole they were living in and one of the pups had already been ‘handed out” in the township …..   PLEASE , PLEASE help us find a suitable foster/s for Rosy and her kids.

Ellen has now run out of funds and only had enough food to feed the dogs up until 3 days ago.  Because of her outstanding vet account she is also unable to take any dogs in for treatment or sterilisation until such time as the overdue account has been paid.

I would like you to consider adopting an adult cat.  Some sanctuaries have so many adults with the most lovely natures which are totally looked past by adopters for kittens.Without these adults being homed, the shelters cannot take in more cats or kittens.

Reasons for adopting an adult cats: 
- They don’t scratch when playing as much.

- Their personalities are set in stone so the really loving ones will always be really loving.

- They are healthy and strong so no chance of them getting the usual kitty illness’s which can be fatal.

-  They have been vaccinated and sterilized so none of the first years costs will be necessary

- They are used to being around other cats (clearly) so introducing them should be easier.

- They are better with children.

- They are not demanding, just loving.

- They are more independent.
